Three in one – an introduction to Ukrainian decorative and applied art, the acquisition of new practical skills in drawing. But the most important thing was relaxation and concentration on the process. All of this is Petrykivka painting – our native treasure, passed down through generations.

This is an ideal format for art therapy classes, because children, on the one hand, are not limited in the choice of colors, shapes and formats, and on the other hand, thanks to a clear algorithm for performing individual elements, they have no fear of a blank sheet. Everyone is guaranteed to create beauty.

Each transitional stroke is like a small meditation. The colors flow into each other without mixing, forming a petal that is incredibly similar to the real one. No matter how hard you try, you won’t get two identical petals – the shape, veins, and color ratio will always be different.

The children move the brush very slowly, watching the paint fall on the paper, mix, each time forming new unique patterns. They relax. They open up like the flowers they are painting. They talk about their lives at home in Lozova, about the long but interesting journey to Kamianets. About the families they miss. About the excursions they have already been on. About their cats and dogs.  Conversations also flow slowly and relaxed, like thick paints from under a brush. Time stops.

They will take home with them their beautiful drawings and the sense of peace and security that they felt in Kamianets-Podilskyi.
