A new project of the SOS Civil Defense Headquarterscharitable foundation, “New citizens: The Way toSuccess”, has been launched, with the main goal ofteaching IDPs a new profession and helping them to findemployment.
According to statistics, only half of internally displacedpersons are currently employed. Some of them workremotely at their previous jobs, others have found a jobwherever they can to cover their daily needs. Somepeople are still living in a state of postponed life. Plusthe responsibility for the family, for the children. Plusthe impact of the stress that each of us experienced sincethe beginning of the war and continues to live throughevery day. Unfortunately there are many more factorsthat prevent us from learning a new profession. A profession that would become a reliable support and helpto earn money right now, not someday, after a costlytraining.
Internally displaced persons, who currently numberabout 20,000 in Kamianets-Podilskyi, will learn abouttheir career opportunities and receive contacts of a careercounselor at the employment center through the project’sinformation program.
About 50 people will learn a new profession to be ableto start working and earn a living as soon as possible. The “Pizzaiolo” and “Targetologist” training courses aredesigned to give people with different interests a chanceto try their hand at a new business.
Today, pizza is served in almost every restaurant. InKamianets-Podilskyi there are more than 50 establishments. There is a shortage of workers. Aftercompleting the course, and especially after practicing ina catering establishment, course participants canimmediately find a job.
Three “Pizzaiolo” courses are planned, each lasting 5 weeks. Upon completion, the participants will have 2 weeks of internship in a catering establishment topractice their skills and feel confident in applying for a job.
The “Targetologist” course is an opportunity to get a profession that will help you not only to find a job andwork remotely, but also develop your own business. These courses are ideal for those who are raisingchildren or caring for people with disabilities and aretherefore forced to give up working in an office. IDPs groups will learn a profession in 2 months that will allowthem to be independent of circumstances and workremotely from anywhere in the world.
The course participants will have the opportunity toattend lectures and workshops on resume writing, grantapplication writing, starting their own business, becoming a lawyer, a psychologist, and advertising onsocial media.
Meetings with representatives of the employment centerare planned to inform them about government programsfor the employment of IDPs and promote self-employment.
The project team tried to foresee and prevent all theobstacles to a stable life for internally displaced persons: unstable psycho-emotional state, fears of starting theirown business, ignorance of the laws and rules of runningtheir own business, and many others. We believe that asa result of the project, the number of people who decideto start their own business, change their profession, ordevelop an existing business will increase significantly.
There is no ready-made path. It appears with the firststep. We invite you to take it with us.
The project “New citizens: The Way to Success” is beingimplemented in Kamianets-Podilskyi with the support of RAZOM.
