The «Children of War», «Safe Space», and «Overcoming Trauma» programs are designed to help people of all ages in psychological support groups. They have proved to be effective, and now residents of Khmelnytsky Oblast can also get acquainted with them.
More than six dozen specialists have received certificates of completion as part of the «SOS-Psychology» project, which is being implemented with the support of the USAID «Building a Resilient Public Health System» project.
The project participants – teachers, social workers, doctors, psychologists, and volunteers – not only attended offline trainings but also completed practical training. They conducted classes for almost 700 people: children’s groups and groups of the elderly. These people have already learned how to cope with stress, increased their psychological resilience, ability to withstand setbacks and recover from them.
But the most important thing is yet to come, as the number of people in need of support is growing every day in the war.
The certification meetings were the logical conclusion of the course: experts shared their experience, discussed successes and failures. And what may seem like a game to an outside observer is also part of the knowledge exchange: everyone showed a technique or exercise that was most popular with the participants of the groups with whom they worked during the practice.
Undoubtedly, the knowledge and experience gained through training will help program participants in both their work and personal lives. Communication with the course instructors, psychologists Yevhen Bozhenko, Iryna Sukhova, Svitlana Fesyk, and Yana Sergeyeva, is therapeutic in itself. The supervision that each project participant received contributed to their growth, both professionally and personally.
But the most important, though not very obvious, result of this training is a community of people who are ready to help others. A space has been created for professionals to communicate, share experiences, and support each other outside of the project.
