“You can’t hear explosions here,” says Pavlo, a boy from Chuhuiv in the Kharkiv region, talking about his stay in Kamianets-Podilskyi. He is here for the fourth time already — and he’s still not bored. On the contrary, a football field has appeared, the children’s playground has been improved, and walking around Kamianets never gets old.
Since September 2022, more than three and a half thousand children from frontline and de-occupied territories have taken part in the “Children of War” project.
Psychological support, excursions, creativity — and most importantly, live communication and peaceful sleep. Things every child has the right to.
Despite everything, the childhood of these boys and girls from Chuhuiv remains active and full of interest. Sasha, a girl from the group, talked about the book she is writing: its main characters are teenagers who find themselves in Canada in search of treasures. Nastia attends a drama studio and, after returning home, will take part in a performance, playing the role of a she-wolf.
Almost all participants in this group have joined the project more than once, and we can watch them grow, develop, and change. Yet they always remain open, smiling, and sincere.
We truly hope that the coming New Year will bring them happiness and, most importantly, peace.
So that their childhood can be what it should be — safe.
