You can’t even imagine how lucky you are! Because together with the boys and girls from Melitopol, you can take a peek inside the classrooms of the oldest medical educational institution in Podillia — the Kamianets-Podilskyi Medical College.
Many of the children already knew Serhii Yurkiv — a doctor, teacher, and volunteer with the Red Cross Society in Kamianets-Podilskyi. Yet, as if for the first time, they listened attentively to his training on first aid. The key principles — how not to cause harm, how to respond in critical situations, and how to avoid putting yourself in danger — are lessons every Ukrainian must know today. The children practiced their new skills with remarkable seriousness and responsibility.
Children of war — no matter how cheerful and open to fun they may seem — are always ready to take action.
The most exciting part awaited them in the college’s classrooms of obstetrics, gynecology, and surgery, and even in the corridors: fascinating exhibits — from a skeleton in a glass cabinet to mannequins of the first rural midwives who studied here back in 1876.
Serhii didn’t just give a tour — he told the children about the history of the college and its unique museum. A real skull and an actual spine — not something you see every day!
Between the serious talks, the children also found time to chat with their peers — students who have already chosen their medical careers.
Perhaps among these boys and girls are the future doctors, whose journey of saving lives began right here, during this very excursion.
We are sincerely grateful to Serhii Yurkiv for supporting the participants of the “Children of War” project — for the engaging tour, his attention to every child, and his compassion.
The “Children of War” project is implemented by the “SOS Civil Defense Headquarters” Charity Foundation with a grant from the Children’s Resilience Fund: Providing Capacity Building and Funding to Ukrainian Civil Society Organizations in Ukraine.
The program is carried out by @CrownAgentsinUA and @IntegrityAction.
