Walking on crutches through a minefield, coming under fire before getting the help she needed – this is the path that Ms. Sapa had to overcome. A mathematician by education, Tetiana has worked as an accountant all her life. Her native home is the village of Kamianske, Zaporizhzhia region. Today it is the front line. Ukrainian troops are on one side of the village, and the enemy is on the other. The woman does not know whether her house survived.

Tatiana is insulin-dependent. Because of the fighting, it was impossible to get the necessary medicines. Evacuation to Zaporizhzhia was the only way to survive. Because of diabetes, she had to have her leg amputated.

In Zaporizhzhia, the woman again experienced the horrors of shelling… Eventually, Ms. Tetyana ended up in the boarding school for the elderly and disabled in Cherche village, a quiet corner in Kamianets district.

Too many trials for one person. Starting life from scratch in a new place, in a different body, in a time of war is not an easy task.

At the orphanage, Ms. Tetyana gladly responded to the offer to take a course of group psychological support classes “Overcoming Trauma. Healing Techniques”, thanks to which we learned the woman’s story. During these classes, she learned self-help techniques in stressful situations and got to know her neighbors from the orphanage.

To cope with her traumatic experience, the woman took advantage of individual psychological counseling. Thanks to the work of psychologists Zhanna Melnyk and Tatiana Kharkova, Tatiana found reasons to be happy where she is and in the state she is in right now.

“I’m very grateful for the sessions with psychologists. I learned a lot of new things. Now I look at problems easier than before. It’s good that there were not only group classes, but also private sessions with a psychologist, because I’m embarrassed to bring some things to the public. I feel much better after talking to a psychologist. And I’m looking forward to our victory! I will definitely come home!”
